Huther-Doyle Adopts New Corporate Structure
The Huther-Doyle Board of Directors met in a Strategic Planning Retreat on August 27, 2007. Prior to the Retreat, the Board met and laid the foundation for future planning by approving a significant structural change for the agency.
The organizational change is intended to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of organizational operations. By adopting more traditional corporate governance, the Board believes we will streamline management, improve supervision/support for staff and enhance inter-Departmental communication. The new structure has long been common in larger not-for-profit organizations but has rarely been implemented by mid-sized or small agencies. Believing that “what works best” is what works, the Board is confident that our new structure will allow us to continue to grow while safeguarding quality of care and focus on programming.
The new structure will result in some changes in line of supervision and some realignment of Departments. However, wde do not believe most staff will feel any direct impact – other than enhanced supervision and increased support.

National HIV Testing Day June 26, 2007
OUTREACH EFFORTS A SUCCESS!

On June 26th, Huther-Doyle’s Risk Reduction Plus Team sponsored the Third Annual HIV Test Fest on the grounds at 360 East Avenue.
National HIV Testing Day is critical to the fight against HIV/AIDS because it presents an opportunity for people nationwide to learn their HIV status, and to gain the knowledge they need to take control of their health and their lives.
National HIV Testing Day also provides an invaluable opportunity to dispel the myths and stigma associated with HIV testing, and to reach those who have never been tested or who have engaged in high-risk behavior since their last test.
The event provided Substance Abuse and HIV Prevention Education, and HIV testing to a continuous crowd of festival goers. Eighty people were tested for HIV which far surpassed the goal for the day’s event. HIV testing was conducted by the Risk Reduction Plus Team, the Monroe County Department of Health, and the AIDS Rochester, Inc., Outreach Van staff.
Information booths were staffed by representatives from AIDS Community Health Center, AIDS Rochester, Inc., Planned Parenthood, The National Kidney Foundation of Upstate New York, Mercy Outreach Center, and Volunteer Legal Services.
Music was provided by “The Mambo Kings” and the Hands-On Chiropractic and Wellness Center offered free stress relief massage for participants.
Huther-Doyle says thank you to our sponsors whose contributions made the day a huge success:

Spirituality in Recovery: The second annual celebration of diverse winter religious holidays
“Once again, the Reverend David Ambuske, M.A.S.W., S.T.D., Counselor, hosted Huther-Doyle’s Spirituality in Recovery program. This annual program celebrates the winter holidays of diverse faiths for our clients.
Our guest presenters this season included Rabbi Amy Sapowitz, Assistant Rabbi, Temple Sinai; Sr. Fran Sweeney, Coordinator of Social Services, Mt. Carmel, St. Martin; Greg Mercer, Huther-Doyle client and Community Outreach Worker; and Ayub Smith, Huther-Doyle staff member.
“Battling Addiction with the Strength of a Higher Power” was this year’s theme.
Each of our presenters explained the meaning of the holidays for their congregations and described the rituals that serve as daily reminders of what our faith means to us.
Huther-Doyle’s recently renovated auditorium was the setting for this standing room only event. Listening and learning the basis for different faiths stimulated a lively and intelligent discussion. The Rev. Ambuske concluded the program with the parable of the Stone Soup, building a rich stew with the contributions from all the different members of a community.
