Buprenorphine

Buprenorphine is a medication that is used to treat dependence on heroin and other opiates.

Buprenorphine treatment:

  • Increases success when used as part of a comprehensive treatment program
  • Decreases heroin/opiate cravings
  • Blocks the ‘high’ from heroin and other opiates removing the reason to use heroin/illicit opiates
  • Can be prescribed in the buprenorphine certified physician’s private office
  • Avoids health risks associated with heroin/ illicit opiates
  • Saves money - your insurance may cover buprenorphine
  • Saves time - compared to daily methadone maintenance clinic attendance

To be appropriate for buprenorphine maintenance you need to:

  • Have a heroin/opiate dependence diagnosis confirmed by an evaluation at Huther-Doyle
  • Have a primary medical care provider to care for all other medical needs
  • Have active medical insurance
  • Attend all treatment groups and appointments at Huther-Doyle
  • Be deemed appropriate by the buprenorphine prescribing physician
Acupuncture: The agency offers acupuncture therapy as a primary intervention on-site.

Acupuncture brings the body into balance and most people notice that it relieves stress and stimulates the tired.
